Temple jewellery was originally crafted to adorn the idols of gods and goddesses in temples of south India. This jewellery after being used on the idols was passed onto temple dancers and was eventually accepted as a part of mainstream jewellery ensemble. Temple jewellery usually has intricately crafted designs of gods and goddesses like Laxmi, Ganesha and Krishna. Made from pure gold, temple jewellery often has colourful beads in red and green that pop well against the yellow metal.
